UK Emergency Alert Test Set for 7 September 2025 – What to Expect
What’s Happening?
The UK government is conducting a second nationwide test of its Emergency Alert system on Sunday 7 September at around 3pm BST.
Millions of mobile phones will receive a test alert via 4G and 5G networks
What Will You See & Hear?
Your phone will vibrate and emit a loud siren‑like tone for about 10 seconds, even if it's on silent. A message will appear on-screen. If your device is switched off or on older 2G/3G networks, you won’t receive it
The system is for real dangers like severe weather or bombs. It’s already helped during Storm Éowyn and a WWII bomb find in Plymouth
Why Test It?
Before the test, officials will raise awareness to help vulnerable groups, like domestic abuse victims with hidden phones. A national resilience plan is also being launched to boost UK emergency readiness.
