Blimey, I nearly choked on my morning tea when I saw this news flash across my phone. Taylor Swift is engaged and she’s getting married to that American football bloke Travis Kelce.
Posted it on Instagram yesterday with some soppy caption about English teachers and gym teachers.
Proper cheeky reference to her song “So High School,” that is.
Football fans have been curious about these two ever since Taylor began showing up at his games last year. They kept on going, “Look how happy she looks,” and showing her photos sitting in the stadiums. And I’m thinking, “Yeah, love, she’s a millionaire pop star; of course she does.” But fair dos, they do seem properly smitten with each other.
Its engagement photos are downright romantic, full of flowers and sunset light. Travis definitely spent some serious cash on that ring. You can spot that sparkle from space. My mate Julie at work says it’s all a publicity stunt but I’m not convinced.
You don’t date an NFL player for two years for attention. And have you seen those American football fans go mental? And anyway, Taylor’s big enough now to afford to buy her own country. She doesn’t have to fake relationships for relevance. What makes me laugh is that they didn’t tell anyone for two weeks before making an announcement.
In this age of Instagrammed breakfasts, that’s like keeping state secrets. It must’ve been killing them not to share the news straight away.
My mate Fiona is already planning their wedding in her head. “They’ll probably have it in Kansas City,” she says, like she’s their wedding planner. “Or maybe Nashville because of her music.” I told her they’ll probably elope somewhere private to avoid the circus but she’s not having any of that.
Apparently the Swifties deserve a proper royal wedding experience. The whole thing’s quite sweet, really. Two mega-famous people who somehow found each other despite living completely different lives. He throws footballs around for a living; she writes songs about her feelings. Shouldn’t work but apparently it does.
We will all be waiting for that mega wedding to take place, whether in secrecy or with proper pomp and show. Until then, we can revel in the knowledge that both have found love and the world certainly needs more of that.
