Fact Check Policy Page Celebrity Talk

Our Commitment to Accuracy

Here at Celebrity Talk, we think that entertainment news should be interesting but never at the price of the facts. We go into the universe of celebs, pop culture, cinema, TV, music and lifestyle. We realise the folks we write about are real people. What we post can affect their reputations, their relationships, and their livelihoods. So accuracy is at the heart of all we do. Our editorial team employs these standards and practices, as laid out in this Fact-Check Policy.

“We want all the stories, features and news updates on Celebrity Talk to be accurate, fair and reported responsibly.”

What We Cover and Why It’s Important

The celebrity journalism landscape is fast-moving. Breaking articles, social media posts, red carpet events and industry gossip may travel swiftly. There’s a lot of pressure to publish fast here. But there is a great obligation to publish properly as well.

Our editorial team covers:

  • Celebrity news, interviews and announcements
  • News from the film, TV and music worlds
  • Relationships, lifestyle & personal milestones
  • Social media trends and pop culture happenings

Entertainment Industry Developments: Opinion & Commentary

In each of these areas, we employ the same rigorous approach to verification and sourcing.

Our Verification Standards

1. Source Verification

All factual claims are fact-checked by our writers and editors with at least one credible source before publishing. We prioritise:

  • Primary sources: Official statements, press releases, verified social media accounts and direct comments from the individual or their agents.
  • Established media outlets: Include reports from trusted UK and international news organisations, entertainment desks and industry journals.
  • On-the-record: Quotes or confirmations from the subject’s publicists, agents, managers or legal representation.

We do not post unsubstantiated rumours as reality. If a story is based on speculation, anonymous sourcing or unconfirmed reports, we clearly note that in the piece.

2. Multiple-Source Corroboration

Before publishing, we confirm significant statements in at least two separate sources. This is true of personal problems, legal problems, health, relationships or misdeeds. When this is not possible, we explain in the article the basis of our reporting and what could not be independently verified.

3. Content for Social Media

We mostly see posts from Instagram, X (previously Twitter), TikTok and YouTube. This is especially the case if they are from real or credible accounts. Facts are not pictures posted by others or screenshots that haven’t been confirmed. More proof is needed to believe them.

We also consider the context of the social media material. A post or video clip may be real yet misleading. We check the original date and the whole context of the statements. We also verify whether content has been changed or taken out of context before reporting on it.

Editorial Process Overview

The articles published on Celebrity Talk are internally editorially reviewed before publication. The following is done in the process:

  • Writers have to reference their claims. If you make a factual assertion in the manuscript, cite it or indicate the source.
  • A senior editor analyses the story for accuracy, fairness and whether the sources are appropriate before it is published.
  • Headline Accuracy: We check to make sure headlines are accurate to the article. Clickbait titles that distort or sensationalise the content of a piece are not tolerated.
  • Sensitive content review: Stories containing claims, legal issues, mental health, loss, or personal crises are reviewed for sensitivity and legality before publishing.

Corrections and Updates Policy

We are only human, and mistakes can happen. When they do, we are fast and transparent.

How We Handle Corrections

  • We promptly correct minor factual errors, such as incorrect dates, spellings of names or other slight inaccuracies.
  • When we find significant factual inaccuracies that misrepresent events or individuals, we add a correction notice at the top of the page. This message is to tell you what was wrong and the right information.
  • Retracted articles: An article may be totally retracted if it is significantly wrong or based on fraudulent information. Instead, a notice of retraction is posted explaining why the item was withdrawn.

We don’t silently modify articles to delete incorrect material without acknowledgement. Transparency about the rectification process is key to sustaining reader trust.

How to Report an Error

If you think we have published something wrong, deceptive or unjust, please do get in touch. Please contact our editorial team at:

📧 [email protected]

Provide the URL of the article, the statement you believe is wrong, and any evidence or information to support your position. We try to consider all requests for corrections within five business days. Next, we will reach out to the individual who reported the complaint.

Opinion, Satire, Editorial Content

Not all information on Celebrity Talk is simply reporting of the news. We also publish:

  • Opinion pieces and comments, which express the personal opinions of the writer and are clearly identified as such.
  • We clearly label satirical content as satire. It is not intended as fact-based reporting.
  • Listicles, rankings and entertainment items typically emanate from personal opinions. They are entertainment, not serious journalism.

We make a clear distinction between reporting of facts and opinion or entertainment. This helps readers to make educated judgments about what they read.

Our Approach to Celebrity Privacy and Dignity

We cover public people. But we acknowledge that superstars have a private existence.

We don’t:

Publish unsubstantiated speculation regarding a celebrity’s private medical or mental health condition.

Report on the lives of young celebrities, focusing on details their families haven’t shared. Avoid posting anything that might encourage harassment or lead readers to target individuals.

We adhere to the Editors’ Code of Practice and are regulated by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO). This code is the standard for responsible journalism in the UK.

Accountability and Continuous Improvement

We are committed to continuously improving our journalistic standards. Our fact-checking process is regularly reviewed. We are also revising our policies in line with best practices in digital media.

If you have any comments about our editorial standards or this policy, please contact us.
