Several Netflix Originals Are Expected to End in 2026

Published on June 1, 2026 by Elowen Hartley

Netflix is the world’s most subscribed streaming platform with more than 277 million paid memberships in 190+ countries. It started as a DVD-by-mail service in 1998 and launched as an online streaming market in 2007.

Netflix has been successful in making a place in people’s lives. The craze of the fans for Netflix Originals is beyond explanation. But there is unfortunate news for the fans. In 2026, Netflix is going to take down some of its shows from the platform.

The reason is that viewership for some shows has dropped, and some shows are ending on their own terms. This is the last time for the fans who haven’t seen these shows; they should watch now before they vanish.

Key Points

  • Several Netflix shows are on the verge of cancellation in 2026
  • It’s Emily in Paris and Outer Banks’ final seasons.
  • Netflix has also axed newer releases such as The Abandons and Pop the Balloon LIVE after one season.
  • Low budget and low viewership are the cause.
  • Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos previously said the streamer has “never cancelled a successful show.”

1. Emily in Paris

Emily in Paris

It is one of the biggest shockers for fans. Netflix confirmed the Lily Collins led series will end after season six. The making of season 6 is going on.

Creator Darren Star thanked fans by saying: “Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives, inspiring your dreams of travel and your love of Paris.”

The comedy-drama has remained one of Netflix’s most recognisable titles since its debut in 2020. Many fans were shocked by the decision because the series continued to perform well and released new seasons consistently.

2. The Night Agent

The Night Agent

Despite becoming one of Netflix’s biggest action thrillers, The Night Agent will officially finish with season four.

Creator Shawn Ryan confirmed the decision in May 2026 while the final season entered production.

He said: “Ever since the initial success of The Night Agent, I’ve been obsessed with eventually delivering a proper and thrilling conclusion.”

The series reportedly saw a drop in viewership between seasons two and three, although it remained popular with audiences.

3. The Lincoln Lawyer

The Lincoln Lawyer is also preparing to bow out. Netflix confirmed that season five will be the final chapter for Mickey Haller’s story.

The legal drama had an unusual journey after CBS originally dropped it in 2020, but Netflix later revived the project.

Reports from Yahoo noted that the ending was unexpected because the original book series still has more material left to adapt.

Creators Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez told Variety: “All good things must come to an end.”

4. Outer Banks

Outer Banks

Unlike some sudden cancellations, Outer Banks was always expected to have a planned ending.

The creators previously described the teen drama as a “five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship”, according to NJ.

The final season is expected later this year, bringing an end to one of Netflix’s biggest youth-focused hits.

5. With Love, Meghan

With Love, Meghan

Meghan Markle’s lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, will not return for a traditional third season.

A spokesperson said the programme would continue through “seasonal specials” instead. While the series reached Netflix’s Top 10 during its run, reviews were mixed, with some viewers describing it as “unrelatable”.

JustWatch described the show as a “comforting” watch despite criticism surrounding its expensive lifestyle themes.

6. Survival of the Thickest

Survival of the Thickest

Michelle Buteau’s comedy-drama Survival of the Thickest will conclude with its third season, arriving in July 2026.

The series earned praise for its focus on body positivity, friendship, and dating.

The show is one of Netflix’s stronger friendship comedies, while the final season would allow the creators to wrap up the story properly.

7. The Abandons
The Abandons

Western drama The Abandons became one of Netflix’s quickest cancellations this year.

The Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson series was dropped after just one season following weak reviews and falling audience numbers.

According to People, creator Kurt Sutter criticised Netflix after the cancellation, accusing the streamer of choosing “the algorithm over a creator’s vision”.

Production issues also affected the series, with Sutter leaving before filming was completed.

8. Terminator Zero

Terminator Zero

Animated sci-fi series Terminator Zero received strong reviews but failed to attract enough viewers.

Creator Mattson Tomlin confirmed the cancellation on X earlier this year, writing:

“The critical and audience reception to it was tremendous, but at the end of the day, not nearly enough people watched it.”

There are two additional seasons that had originally been planned.

9. The Vince Staples Show

The Vince Staples Show

Critically acclaimed comedy The Vince Staples Show also failed to survive despite strong reviews.

The series earned impressive Rotten Tomatoes scores but reportedly struggled to find a mainstream audience. It ranked low in Netflix’s wider viewership report for late 2025.

The show was cancelled shortly after its second season premiered.

Other Netflix Shows Ending in 2026

Several other titles have also either been cancelled or confirmed to end this year. These include:

  • Miss Governor
  • Selling the City
  • Star Search
  • Bandi
  • Pop the Balloon LIVE
  • Queer Eye
  • The Upshaws
  • The Witcher
  • Breathless
  • Alpha Males
  • Alice in Borderland
  • Class
  • Billionaires’ Bunker

Reports suggest that rising costs, weaker viewership, and changing audience habits continue to shape Netflix’s decisions.

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos previously explained the streamer’s approach during an interview with Bloomberg, saying: “A lot of these shows were well-intended but talk to a very small audience on a very big budget.”
